COVID-19 Services Insurance Coverage After End of Public Health Emergency
With the Biden Administration announcement that the public health emergency status of COVID-19 has ended, the following are in effect as of May 12, 2023, for ADOA health plans (Triple Choice Plan and the High Deductible Health Plan with HSA) and the UA Alternative health plan.
Services related to COVID-19 are covered as follows:
-
Lab tests for COVID-19 are covered without a deductible or copay when a physician orders the test.
-
COVID-19 vaccines and boosters are considered preventive and are still covered when using an in-network provider or pharmacy. Deductibles and copays apply when using an out-of-network provider or pharmacy.
-
COVID-19 oral therapeutic medication treatment (i.e., Paxlovid) are still covered through the pharmacy benefit without a deductible or copay.
The primary effect of the end of the public health emergency is that COVID-19 over-the-counter test kits purchased after May 11, 2023, are no longer covered/reimbursed by those plans.
